O Zhang: I Am Your Mirror

    Fall 2012

Working in photography and mixed media, O Zhang combines rich, color-saturated photographs with an experimental installation style to produce work, such as the project “Daddy and I,” that is riveting and all encompassing. In this series, for example, Ms. Zhang incorporated home-grown, large tropical flora to create an entire ambience, one in which the photographs seem to become the blooms of the plants.

O Zhang was born in Guangzhou, China, and received her MFA in photography from the Royal College of Art in London; she now lives in New York City.

    Photography Exhibition by Brian Doan

    Fall 2013

His childhood in communist Vietnam gives artist and photographer Brian Doan his frame of reference. His work, which has been exhibited internationally, is praised for its high quality. It is also known for inciting controversy. His photograph “Thu Duc, Vietnam,” which Doan intended as a commentary on the youth of Vietnam who grew up there after the Vietnam War, has been accused of being pro-communist, and sparked protest when it was shown in California. Doan prefers to think of his work as instead fostering intercultural understanding. In 2004, he published the monograph The Forgotten Ones: A Photographic Documentation of the Last Vietnamese Boat People in the Philippines, to document the plight of Vietnamese refugees who languished for years on Palawan Island, the Philippines.

Mr. Doan received his MFA in Photography from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design, and his BFA from the University of Colorado in Denver. He now makes his home in Los Angeles. He was born in Quang Ngai, Vietnam.
