The Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise

The Vilcek Foundation awards the Creative Promise Prize to recognize foreign-born artists and scientists who, early in their careers, have already demonstrated exceptional achievement in biomedical science and the arts. A different art field is chosen each year by the FoundationāŽÆin 2012 it is dance. This year, our Creative Promise prize winners are Alice Ting, in biomedical science, and Michel Kouakou, in dance.

Recipients each receive $25,000 and a commemorative plaque, designed by Stefan Sagmeister, at the Foundation’s annual awards dinner, held early in spring, in New York City.

The Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise was established in 2009, as a complement to the Vilcek Prizes, to encourage and support the artistic and scientific achievements of younger immigrants who often face significant challenges early in their careers, and to further our mission to raise awareness of the notable contributions made by foreign-born scholars and artists in the United States. Candidates submit applications from which the winners and four finalists are selected by two panels of expert jurors.
